ACADEMICS

Academics are taught with the specific goal of teaching students to think.

The major components include:

Essential question

15 essential skills

These components are used to make our curriculum useful for the demands of the 21st century.

Meaningful curriculum is chosen from Florida State Standards and current events.

Teams work on projects which are then presented in class.
These projects are evaluated through the use of rubrics.

Selected groups then exhibit their work before a panel of community members.

Portfolios are used to demonstrate individual competency. They too are evaluated with a rubric.

Research reports; oral and/or written are the way curriculum knowledge is learned and demonstrated. Specific rubrics are used here too, so that students clearly understand what is expected for an excellent product.

“Differentiation” techniques are applied to meet the various learning styles of students.
