FOLLE ' ARTE
Performing Design: Instruction, Choreo, Staging, Production
The Study of Dance
develops musicality, rhythm, self-discipline, physical grace,
performance ability, confidence and artistic expression. This
dance program provides great beginnings in dance and will focus on
technique study working toward performance, not competition.
Students and Parents
are expected to commit to the instructor and full dance study
year, September through May. Be punctual and attend class
regularly.
Come Prepared for Class
with hair pulled back if longer than chin length, no gum, no
jewelry, no baggy shirts, no "costumes" in class. Wear
appropriate dance or exercise clothing and proper dance shoes if
required.
DO
NOT WEAR STREET SHOES ON THE DANCE FLOOR.

MOVEMENT
(Kindergarten)
Creative Movement develops the basics of movement,
listening, rhythm, body awareness and class structure through the
joy of movement ... yahoo!
INTRODUCTION TO DANCE
(1st through 3rd grade)
Introduction
to Dance is pre-technique level with continued early learning for
the young dancer. Focus on rhythmic expressive movement, body
awareness, core steps, terminology, coordination and poise through
a structured class.
BALLET
(3rd through 12th
grades)
Elementary and early intermediate level technique
study utilizing Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) School training.
Focus, developing terminology and dance vocabulary, execution of
movement. Ballet is the foundation of ALL dance styles and is
recommended for all students.
(Classical Ballet dancewear: pink tights and ballet shoes, black
body leotard for girls; black ballet shoes, black ripstop nylon
jazz pants, black fitted T-shirt for boys.)
JAZZ
(3rd through 12th
grades)
Elementary and intermediate level technique study.
Rhythmic and enlived dance study. Broadway, theatrical, modern,
contemporary styles, especially Limon, Horton, Ailey, Fosse.
(Classic Jazz dancewear: standard tights and leotards, jazz pants,
fitted shirts, jazz shoes.)
LYRICAL
(7th through 12th
grades) prerequisite: Ballet & Jazz
Contemporary modern dance technique which grew out
of combined classical ballet and jazz. Sweeping and dramatic,
closed and open positions, elegance with natural movements and
dance mime. Technique influence: Duncan, Ailey, Humphrey,
Graham, Cunningham, Tharp.
(Classic Lyrical dancewear: standard tights and leotards, jazz
pants, fitted shirts, barefoot.)
CHOREOGRAPHY (9th
through 12th) prerequisite: Ballet & Jazz
Learning fundamentals of being a choreographer, the
maker of dances. Includes: the use of energy, space, time; music
selection; role of the choreographer; choreographic process;
meaning of movement; explorations; improvisations; movement
selections; giving the dance form; critical analysis; evaluating
yourself. Viewing video of influential choreographers.
Developing dances, teaching them to the class, class performance.
