Teacher Bio

– A master percussionist and music educator with 30 years of musical training, music has taken me around the world performing, teaching and studying. I received a Bachelor of Arts in music from the University of Maryland – graduating with honors and awards for outstanding achievements in music – where I subsequently taught for eight years as an adjunct professor and assistant to the head of the percussion department. I also collaborated extensively with the dance department, accompanying dance classes and performances and teaching rhythmic training courses to dance students. For several years I worked in the Maryland public school system, offering special programs on world music to students of all levels with my group Nada Brahma. An excursion to Guatemala deeply interested me in Latin music and culture, and I spent over two years in Central and South America, studying the language and music and performing with the folk ensemble Sol Latino. My journey then took me to Japan, where for two years, I taught and developed the percussion curriculum at the Fukuoka School of Music, a technical college in southern Japan. Returning to the US in 2005, I toured for two years with the fusion group, Facing East. I settled in Jacksonville where I’ve been teaching drums and guitar to students of all ages for the past eight years.
