Ceramics
At TFA, our ceramics program introduces students to the art of working with clay.
Introductory ceramics course focusing on hand building and wheel-throwing techniques while exploring clay as both a functional and expressive medium. Students will learn the complete ceramic process from forming to glazing and firing, with an emphasis on creativity, craftsmanship, sketching for planning, and safe studio practices. Studio Habits of Mind such as observation, persistence, reflection, and envisioning are woven throughout the course to help students develop both artistic skill and thoughtful practice.
Essential Skills: Clay preparation, hand-building (pinch, coil, slab), wheel-throwing, surface decoration, glazing, kiln operation basics, design problem-solving, and creative expression
Career Connections: Ceramic artist, product designer, industrial designer, art educator, museum/gallery professional, conservation/restoration specialist, studio technician.
